The above buttons lead to
surname pages that give birth, marriage, and death data for the years between
1812 and 1860. This data was accumulated from microfiche film available at
the Family History Center. The Casalduni names selected, on above buttons,
play a part in my ancestry and on each chart the names in bold print are my
specific ancestors. Please use the guest book (found on the home page) to
advise if you find one or more names to whom you are related.

Record Keeping History
Napoleon's brother Joseph became king of Naples in 1806 and
was followed by Joachim Murat. Joseph was transferred to Spain and the
ensuing Peninsula War helped bring down the French Empire. The term Two Sicilies
was used by the Bourbons who fled twice to Sicily under British protection,
first in 1799 (restored in June of that year) and again, in 1806, but it
took to 1814/15 for them to get back.
In 1806 when Joseph, the brother of Napoleon, became the new
ruler of Naples, he initiated laws requiring recordation of Birth, Death and
Marriage events in each community. The
Catholic Church had kept records of these events long before the appearance of
Joseph Boneparte; but for the searchers in Casalduni, the records were destroyed by fire in the “massacre of 1861”
and then the earthquake of 1987. For the
Casalduni searcher, this means that one can find 1809 to 1860 ancestral records
in the Family History Centers, and for records after 1860, one must write to
Casalduni; but no records prior to 1809 are available.
